Halifax JD408 | DY-R | Mannheim | 9th August 1943

JD408 was one of two No.102 Sqdn Halifaxes lost on this operation. They took off at 22.50 on the 9th Aug 1943 from Pocklington. Shot down by a night-fighter and abandoned W of Mannheim.

F/O Bays was found with fatal injuries and is believed to have struck a propellor as he made his exit.
Along with F/S Sherrington,and P/O Burdon he is buried in Rheinberg War Cemetery.

F/S K.P.Walker in Camp 357, PoW No.43242
