The crew took off at 16.45 from Pocklington to attack a coking plant.

On returning to base at 22.25, the plane undershot the runway, hitting a house at Riverhead

F/S Sheridan was the husband of Margaret Moyes Sheridan, of Galashiels.
He is buried in Galashiels (Eastlands) Cemetery.
At 35, he was well above the average age for operational aircrew.

Thanks to John Saville for this photo, that we have cleaned up just a little bit.

We are as sure as we can possibly be that the plane above actually is P Popeye.
The reason is that in this photo above, you can see the missions that it has been on... some are minelaying, some are bombing raids.

Well by sheer fluke we have not only been sent one photo of this plane... but.. TWO!

As you can see, this plane has now done many more operations, but the top row is exactly the same as the plane in the first photo.
