Sergeant J. M. Wilson

W1142 DY-A took off from Topcliffe at 11.13 pm on the 26th July 1942 bound for Hamburg.

Shot down off the German coast, from where the survivors were rescued clinging to part of a wing section.

In a post war report, it is stated that the body of Sgt Jones was visible in the wreckage of the bomber.

Rather surprisingly, he is buried in Hannover War Cemetery, while P/O Barber is buried in Sage War Cemetery.

Sgt Wilcox was subsequently repatriated.

Sgt J.B.Downes was interned in Camps 8B/344, PoW No.25095 with Sgt J.W.Vine, PoW No.25070 and Sgt J.S.Higgin in Camp 344, PoW No.42806. Sgt W.G.Wilcox was confined in Hospital due injuries until repatriation. No PoW No.
