On the right, the crew of LW192 DY-H Fl/Sgt. Eric Braddock front centre, Sgt. Ernest Finch back 3rd from left, Sgt. Enrico “Eric” Zaccheo 1st on the right.

They got arborne at 23.00 from Pocklington, but were shot down by a night- fighter whose cannon fire caused the Halifax to explode at 02.03 and scattered debris between Bourmalsen (Gelderland) and nearby Buren, 7 km WNW from Tiel.

 

All are buried in Buren General Cemetery.

The original Crew graves.

A member of the Dutch underground buried the whole crew, whilst the people of Buren laid flowers at the funeral.

 

In this same cemetery the bodies of some German casualties were buried, (See Photo above) which after the war had finished, were re interred back in Germany.

 

 



In 1956 the R.B.L. took Elsie, her niece and other relations over to visit the graves of the crew in Buren General Cemetery. Elsie and her sister 4th and 5th from the right
